MEN in the region are being encouraged to take their health more seriously.
As part of Men’s Health Week next week, health bosses at NHS Yorkshire and the Humber are urging men to seek medical advice on a more regular basis. The aim of the week is to heighten the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among males of all ages.
Paul Johnstone, regional director for public health at NHS Yorkshire and the Humber, said: “There is a very real culture among a lot of men in Yorkshire and the Humber region about not complaining and not going to see the doctor; this is what we want to change.
“By ignoring a problem there is every possibility that you could be making it worse, so our advice is, don’t be shy, get things checked early before they become a problem.”
A Government survey has also revealed more than 40 per cent of men and women in Yorkshire and the Humber region are unaware that they risk piling on the pounds every time they exceed their recommended daily alcohol allowance.
