POLICE are appealing to the person who took money left at a cash machine in Scarborough to contact them.

A customer had tried to withdraw £290 from a machine outside the Co-op store on Newlands Park Drive just after 9.30am yesterday, but the transaction took a while to complete.

Shortly after someone used the ATM and took the money before withdrawing cash from their own account.

PC Tracey Brewster, of the Scarborough Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “It is entirely possible that the person who removed the money has every intention of handing it in to the police, but has simply not had a chance to do so. I ask they contact me at Scarborough police station so I can visit them to collect the money and return it to its rightful owner.

“It will take the bank several days to provide the name of the person who used the machine, at which point I will be visiting their home to recover the money and establish whether or not a crime has been committed.”

PC Brewster can be contacted on 0845 60 60 24 7.
