A GARDEN centre’s charity night for bikers has raised more than £1,500 for a mental health charity.

About 200 motorcyclists from all over Yorkshire and Lincolnshire converged on Dean’s Garden Centre, at Stockton-on-the-Forest near York, and its sister centre in Seamer Road, Scarborough, on Wednesday.

About 50 took part in an optional ride from Scarborough to Stockton, led by Kilham Wednesday Night Bikers and taking in some of North Yorkshire’s best biking roads.

Classic enthusiasts took the chance to visit Craven’s Collection just across the road from the Stockton garden centre, a museum of more than 250 vintage and classic machines.

Visitors also had a chance to examine a concourse of classic and modern bikes in the garden centre’s car park and a few trade stands, and trophies were presented for best classic and modern bike.

Organiser Janet Poad said the chosen charity for this year’s fundraising night, the fourth event of its kind, was MIND, and more than £1,500 had been raised, with more still coming in. She said: “It was brilliant.

“Bikers came from as far away as Sheffield, Lincolnshire, Whitby and Middlesbrough as word got around.”

She said she planned to organise a fifth biker’s night next year – “even bigger and better”.
