A WOMAN was airlifted to hospital after a three-vehicle crash on the A64 in North Yorkshire.

The incident – which left three people injured - happened at 4.39pm yesterday at Crambeck, near Malton.

A spokeswoman for the North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said they sent three appliances, including two from Malton, to the incident.

Firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to cut free a woman from one of the vehicles and she was taken to York Hospital by air ambulance.

A further two patients were taken by ambulance to York Hospital.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said all three of the patients received treatment for cuts and bruises and none of the injuries are thought to be serious. A spokeswoman for the Yorkshire ambulance service said they sent an ambulance, a rapid response vehicle and an emergency car practitioner to the incident.

A stretch of the A64 was closed for about two hours as the vehicles were cleared and investigations into the cause of the collision got underway.
