THE region’s NHS authority has revealed where it will make cuts in the money it gives to voluntary organisations.
Following a review of spending which began in April, NHS North Yorkshire And York said it would stop or reduce funding of organisations which did not cater for those “at risk of hospitalisation or loss of independence” or “not delivering the desired outcomes”.
The decision was also based on whether the services of a particular organisation were being duplicated by another.
Among those to have funding cut entirely were Scarborough Disablement Action Group, Yorkshire Housing Foundation and Thirsk Community Care Association.
The board said it gave £5 million to voluntary organisations annually.
Groups which will remain funded by the PCT are those which meet a set of criteria which includes supporting the elderly and frail, carers and those with dementia. The trust said full implications of the changes in funding to the organisations will be published once those affected have had chance to appeal the decisions.
