A PICKERING primary school is gearing up for a quacking evening with their annual Duck Derby this Friday.
Organised by The Friends of St Joseph’s RC Primary School – an organisation of parents, teachers and supporters of the school – the event will raise money for the school, with £800 collected already.
The ducks, bought for £1 each, will be released into Pickering Beck at 6pm outside the scout hut and will ‘race’ towards the bridge near the Co-op. The first duck under the bridge will win £50, second place £20 and third place £10.
Amanda Howard, chair of the Friends, said: “The children always get very excited when the ducks come down the river and it’s always a fun evening.”
A jumble sale also organised by the Friends will take place on Saturday, July 9 at the WRVS Centre, starting at 10am.
