A FORMER Ryedale man accused of killing a woman after he throttled her to death told police in interview he had not meant to kill her, but had grabbed her round the neck after she had “gone mad” at him for staying out all night, a court heard.

Aaron O’Brien, 22, is accused of murdering Magdalena Januszeska, 34, whose body was found at a house in Copenhagen Way, near Aylsham Road, Norwich, on January 25.

The prosecution at Norwich Crown Court allege that O’Brien strangled her and then wrapped her head with cling film, and two plastic carrier bags before placing her under his bed.

Her body was later discovered on January 25, after the defendant’s father had expressed concern after not hearing from his son and O’Brien was arrested in Malton the following day on suspicion of murder. He is understood to be originally from the Malton area.

O’Brien, who lived in the same property, denies murder.

In police interviews, which were played to the jury, O’Brien admits that he killed Miss Januszeska, but said that he had grabbed her round the neck after she had started shouting at him for not coming home that night.

He said: “She went a bit mad at me. I grabbed her round the neck from behind and just held her.

“I kept squeezing and squeezing real hard and then she stopped moving.”

He said he had panicked and had taken Miss Januszeska’s car keys and drove off to Yorkshire.

The trial continues.
