TWO sports fans have been chosen to carry the Olympic torch during its journey through North Yorkshire this summer.
Fergus Roberts and Marc Scott, who attend Northallerton College, were selected for their “outstanding contribution to sport”, which has seen Marc represent Great Britain in mountain-running and recently attend the world championships in Albania, while Fergus became cross-country national champion aged 13.
The torch will pass through North and East Yorkshire in June during a 70-day journey around the UK, which will see it being held aloft by 8,000 bearers.
Marc, 18, said: “I couldn’t believe it and I don’t think it has quite sunk in yet that I am going to be carrying it.”
Fergus, 17, said it was “a bit of a shock but a great surprise” after he was nominated by Northallerton Rotary Club.
