A HUGE jobs boost could be on its way to Ryedale after planners said a new food factory should get the go-ahead.
Yorkshire Baker wants to build a production plant in Norton which would create about 300 positions, after the firm decided the development it had originally planned was not big enough. Its revised scheme is due to go before Ryedale District Council next week.
Planning officers have recommended councillors should back the application for the factory, which would be based on Norton Grove Industrial Estate.
When Yorkshire Baker submitted its original proposals – approved in February – the plant was expected to create about 120 jobs, but the company now wants a larger factory because of increased demand for its products.
If supported, the application will be delegated to the council’s head of planning for a final decision once a consultation period has expired.
The firm’s existing premises at Norton Grove will be retained.
The new factory would cover 5,900sqm, with 90 parking spaces.
