MORE than 2,300 motorists have been breathalysed this summer as part of North Yorkshire Police’s crackdown on drink-driving.
Since the campaign began on June 1, 2,374 people have been tested on the roads of North Yorkshire and York, leading to 93 arrests, 22 driving disqualifications, 30 motorists charged with drink-driving and currently awaiting court dates, and 23 more on bail.
A 15-year-old youth was given a four-month Youth Offender order, and a woman driver had her licence endorsed with ten penalty points.
Traffic Sergeant Pete Stringer said: “What is encouraging is the fact that we have managed to catch a large number of people suspected of drink driving. What is discouraging is the number of people who continue to get behind the wheel after drinking or taking drugs.
“The fight against drink and drug driving is a constant one, and until people get the message, we will keep we will keep arresting offending motorists and the courts will keep banning them from the roads.”
