NORTH Yorkshire golfer Simon Dyson endured an up and down weekend as the South African Open Championship reached a climax in Gauteng.

The 35-year-old produced a blemish free four under par round of 68 on Saturday to climb back up the leaderboard into a tie for 34th place after his first two rounds of 68 and 74.

A pair of birdies on the front nine, at the seventh and eighth holes, was followed by a brace of birdies on the back nine, at the 13th and 16th.

That left the Malton & Norton Golf Club ace on six under par going into the final round, but yesterday he failed to conjure a birdie in a five over score of 77 as he dropped to a tie for 52nd place.

A double-bogey at the par three third hole was followed by a dropped shot at the sixth, while there were also bogeys at 11 and 17.

The tournament was won by Denmark’s Morten Orum Madsen on 19 under par.

South African duo Hennie Otto and Jbe Kruger finished joint second on 17 under.
