DEFENDER Keith Lowe believes York City are beginning to pick up the points their performances deserve.
The centre-back, who recently made his loan deal from Cheltenham permanent by putting pen to paper on a two-and-a-half-year contract, reckons the Minstermen are “starting to push on and go places”.
Lowe has formed a reliable partnership with David McGurk at the heart of the City backline as the club have recorded a trio of successive victories – the last a 2-0 win at Northampton on Saturday.
As York prepare to welcome Bristol Rovers to Bootham Crescent this weekend, the 28-year-old said he was delighted to have secured his future with the club.
“I’m really, really happy about it,” Lowe explained.
“I think I’ve come into a club that’s really starting to push on and go places and I am really excited to be a part of that.
“We are starting to put points on the board – points that our performances really deserve and that we weren’t getting when I first got here.
“Things are starting to look a lot better and we look to Saturday and push on for another win.
“I think we just needed that one win because our performances have been really good. We’ve really put shifts in and worked hard and not got our just rewards really.
“We are forcing the issue now.
“The hard work doesn’t stop here. We have got to kick on and keep getting points on the board – keep plugging away and you never know what can happen.”
On his burgeoning understanding with McGurk, Lowe added that the pair read the game in similar ways.
“I am enjoying playing next to him, he said. “He’s got a wealth of experience and I am hoping to add a bit of that myself to the back four. We really seem to have a decent understanding.
“We do suit each other a little bit. We both read the game quite well and I think that helps.
“I didn’t have a lot of chances to get used to him before he was subbed on at Southend on my debut so it was a good job we kind of clicked straight away.”
A lengthy deal has given Lowe security and a chance to play regularly, a frustration of the latter part of his time at Cheltenham. He said he was keen to repay the Minstermen’s faith.
Lowe said: “It was massive for me. I wasn’t getting the games I needed to – especially at 28. I want to be playing week in and week out.
“I have been given that opportunity here and I am going to work as hard as I can to stay in that team and play as many games as I can.”
