YORK City Ladies drew 2-2 with top of the table Norton & Stockton Ancients in the North East Regional Premier Division.
The share-all maintained York’s unbeaten record in 2014, although they are a point behind Norton having played two more games.
In a scrappy first half, the Minster city ladies set a high tempo.
Lauren Shuttleworth and leading scorer Jazz Whitwell both tested the ‘keeper.
After the half-time interval, Norton took the lead from their first corner and first shot.
York stepped up again and carved out an equaliser from Norwegian striker Lisa Bjornstad.
A second quickly followed when Shuttleworth pounced to poke the ball home after a goalmouth scramble.
With the referee indicating seven minutes of stoppage time, it was backs-to-the-wall defending as Norton found a new lease of life. But two minutes in York’s defence was caught out.
York continue their promotion push at Peterlee tomorrow.
