RAPID strikes at the outset of each half confirmed a comfortable 2-0 North-East Women's Regional League triumph at Peterlee.
The hosts had the first attack but once it was repelled, York countered to startling impact.
ith just a light wind that wouldn’t impact on this game.
The game kicked off and Peterlee made their first attack on goal but the attack didn’t come t o anything with some solid defending from Yorks back four. York countered and some great movement down the wing from Ali Smith saw York go 1 up on the two minute mark with a great run and accurate strike straight into the back of the net.
Despite going one up York didn’t really settle into their style of football and the game was quite disorganized for the first 10 minutes. Things started to come together though and York started to pass the ball around well, Peterlee were not closing down and allowing York too much time on the ball with some great crosses coming in across the wing from Jazz Whitwell.
Peterlee won a free kick on twenty minutes on the half way line but the subsequent ball in was cleared with a confident header from Josie Hewson. Seven minutes later York won their own free kick , a superb strike from Sara Renfrew looked as though it was going in only to clip the post and come back out.
York kept control and were knocking the ball around really well between themselves with great runs from Ellie Harding ,Lisa Bjornstad and Lauren Shuttleworth.
The second half kicked off and York found themselves 2 up after 57 seconds after a short corner from Whitwell to Beth Clayton out too Nicky Brown with a sweet strike that the keeper stood no chance with.
The two goal lead appeared to calm York and they settled and were really playing some nice football across the whole of the pitch, all the team involved. Subs Becca Dawson and Helen Dalby who came onto replace Lisa Bjornstad and Abbi Webster at 70 and 80 minutes both relaxed straight into the game. A further free kick for York again taken by Renfrew with another solid strike making Peterlees keeper pull off a suberb save.
York finished the game comfortably without any really threat from Peterlee to concern them .
