AUSTRALIA might have caused the nation's cricket lovers months of misery this winter but Billy McEwan could look for inspiration from Down Under as York City continue plotting their play-off challenge.
McEwan has taken Derby County's versatile Aussie James Meredith on trial and will run the rule over the left-footed teenager during tonight's reserve match at home to Rotherham United.
Albury-born Meredith signed a two-year professional deal with the Rams last summer and scored a goal against FC Grotkorn in the first-team's pre-season tour of Austria.
Since then, the 18-year-old, who can play on the left side of midfield or left back, spent a month on loan at City's Conference rivals Cambridge United in October, playing in the 3-0 home defeat against Oxford United and the 2-0 FA Cup fourth qualifying round exit at Northwich Victoria.
City reserves from Reid, Hollingsworth, McMahon, McGurk, Thornton, Greenwood, Wrigley, Webster, Rhodes, Meredith, Shepherd, McWilliams, Phillips, Stimpson, Johnson. (7pm kick-off).
City have rearranged last Tuesday's postponed Pontin's League home clash with Hartlepool for Wednesday, March 14.
The reserves' trip to Darlington, previously scheduled for that date, will now be played on March 28.
FA Trophy third round draw: Newport County or Histon v Eastbourne Borough or Northwich Victoria, Tamworth or Welling United v Worcester City, Stalybridge Celtic or Kettering Town v Salisbury, Morecambe v Stevenage, Oxford United or Halifax Town v Redditch United, Kidderminster Harriers v Braintree Town, AFC Wimbledon v Rushden & Diamonds, Grays v Yeading.
