TEENAGE duo Karl Carver and Matt Fisher have been handed their maiden professional contracts by Yorkshire.

Sessay left-arm spinner Carver, 18, and Sheriff Hutton Bridge fast bowler Fisher, 17, are two of ten White Rose players who have penned new deals at Headingley ahead of 2015.

The pair are joined in signing their first pro contracts by fellow England Under-19s seamer Josh Shaw, 18. They have all signed for two years.

Carver is the only one of the trio who has played an LV= County Championship match, against Warwickshire at Edgbaston last summer.

Yorkshire director of cricket Martyn Moxon, who alongside Jason Gillespie has overseen the early stages of pre-season training, said: “The young lads have brought energy and freshness to training so far.

“They have impressed in fitness sessions, and are eager to be part of our plans next season.

“They’ll be getting up to speed with the rigours of professional cricket, and I have no doubt that they will put pressure on the rest of the squad for a spot in the first team at some stage.

“They are very talented, and they will be ready when required.”

Senior trio Joe Root, Rashid and wicketkeeper Andrew Hodd have signed two-year extensions until the end of 2016.

“It is important to keep the squad together as much as we possibly can,” continued Moxon.

“We have had some success over the last few years, but from our point of view it is only the start.

“We want to be successful over a period of time.

“To get the core of the squad signed up for at least the next 12 months is very important.”

Fast bowler Moin Ashraf, who endured a hugely frustrating summer due to injury and loss of form, has penned a one-year contract until the end of 2015, as has left-arm seamer James Wainman.

Batsman Eliot Callis and all-rounder Ryan Gibson have both signed senior Academy contracts until the end of 2015.
