PLYMOUTH Argyle will be bidding for an eighth successive home win when they entertain York City tomorrow.
The Pilgrims’ current sequence is their best since racking up ten victories on the trot at Home Park in March 2002 with John Sheridan’s men having won all of their last five home matches in Sky Bet League Two without conceding a goal.
Sheridan’s side have also defeated respective visitors AFC Fylde (2-0) and Swindon (3-2) in the FA Cup and Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.
Portsmouth (3-0), Cheltenham (3-0), Carlisle (1-0), Shrewsbury (1-0) and Hartlepool (2-0) have all been seen off during the 100 per cent run in the league and top-of-the-table Wycombe’s 1-0 win in mid-September represents Argyle’s only defeat in front of their own fans during 12 fixtures this season.
Only Premier League Southampton, meanwhile, can boast better defensive statistics than the Devon club this season from the top four divisions in this country.
Plymouth have only let in ten league goals this term, compared to the six that the Saints have shipped.
At home, meanwhile, Argyle have conceded just twice in the league with Southampton having only been breached once.
In total, ever-present goalkeeper Luke McCormick has kept 11 clean sheets in 22 outings behind his team’s 3-5-2 formation.
At the other end of the pitch, meanwhile, Sheridan also boasts the division’s second top marksman in former Yeovil and Rotherham forward Reuben Reid.
The Bristol-born 26-year-old has netted 11 goals this term – just one less that Oxford hotshot Danny Hylton.
Reid’s fellow striker Matt Lecointe is Plymouth’s only current absentee, having not played since February 2013 after suffering two serious knee injuries in quick succession.
The hosts are expected to make one change to their starting line-up tomorrow with on-loan midfielder Bobby Reid poised to feature having returned to the club this week after being recalled by parent club Bristol City at the start of this month.
Lee Cox is set to make way.
The Pilgrims lie sixth in the table – five points from the top – but did see an unbeaten run of seven games come to an end following last weekend’s 1-0 defeat at Mansfield.
Plymouth (probable): McCormick, Nelson, McHugh, Hartley, Mellor, O’Connor, B Reid, Blizzard, Kellett, R Reid, Alessandra.
