YORK City reserves were unlucky to lose 3-2 to their in-form counterparts from Grimsby Town in a Pontin's League division one east match.
Lewis McMahon made it 1-1 with an equalising penalty midway through the first half after Philip Bell was tripped in the area.
City, though, suffered a mad five minutes immediately after half-time and conceded two goals to fall 3-2 behind.
They bounced back, though, with what reserve team coach Colin Walker described as "probably the best 40 minutes we've played this season".
Mark Convery pulled one goal back, albeit from what looked like a massively offside position, and City pressed further but without getting a deserved leveller.
They had several shots on the Grimsby goal and Anthony Lloyd hit a post from 25 yards.
Walker said: "Grimsby have won something like eight of their last nine game but we played really well in a good game and I think a draw would have been a fair result."
