YORK City boss Billy McEwan held a coaching session for 35 talented youngsters at the club's first Advanced Football Development Camp.

Organised and led by York City in the Community development officers Danny Parker and Peter Vasey, the camp took place for four days and focussed on all aspects of the game from defending to goal-scoring principles.

The highlight was the appearance of City's first-team manager who stayed on to present the children with their camp completion certificates and York City goodie bags, which included a free match ticket, before signing autographs.

Earlier in the week, City's head of youth Eric Winstanley had visited the camp as well to view the potential on show.

City's community team also hosted a four-day Football Fun Camp over the Easter holidays, which was attended by 42 children.

The camp ended with a visit from players Craig Farrell, Neal Bishop, Craig James and Darren Hollingsworth who handed out trophies and certificates at the presentation ceremony.

Vasey said: "All the children really enjoyed themselves.

"They were a bit apprehensive beforehand what with the manager coming down but they were soon at ease.

"It was great to see Billy McEwan in action and we told the children what a fantastic opportunity they had so to make sure they went out and enjoyed it.

"We got some really good feedback from parents, the coaches loved it and Billy enjoyed it as well.

"We saw one or two young players who have had their names put forward and we are just trying to get around as many kids in the city as possible to oversee local talent and raise the profile of the club.

"It was a huge success and everyone really enjoyed it."

With both weeks proving hugely popular, the community team are already planning their next football camps for the summer holidays.
