YORK City goalkeeper Tom Evans headed to Southport today with his pre-season target within his grasp.

He has two games of the regular season remaining in which to reach his intended clean sheet target of 20 for the season.

The former Scunthorpe stopper's shut-out tally currently stands at 18 or 19 depending on whether or not the FA Cup qualifying match at Newcastle Benfield is counted.

He'll be hoping for another shut-out at Haig Avenue this afternoon and next Saturday when Jim Smith's Oxford will be the visitors to KitKat Crescent for the final game of the campaigan.

But Doncaster-born Evans has stressed that the recent 2-1 and 3-1 victories over Burton and Rushden respectively gave him more satisfaction than the clean sheet he enjoyed during City's last outing - a 0-0 draw at Stafford last Saturday.

The ex-Sheffield United trainee said: "I'm still hoping to reach my target but I will take a 2-1 win over a 0-0 clean sheet any time."

City currently boast the division's second-meanest defence although the 45 goals they have conceded still trails a long way behind Oxford's 32 against record.
