CITY legend Paul Barnes will be the guest of honour at tonight's play-off match against Morecambe at KitKat Crescent.
In nearly four years at the club, Barnes scored 85 goals in 179 appearances after being snapped up from Stoke for a bargain £50,000 in 1992.
His goals fired City into the then Second Division in 1993 and it was his pass which created Gary Swann's goal in the play-off final against Crewe at Wembley that year.
Messages of goodwill from ex-Minstermen stalwarts continue to flood into York City ahead of tonight's play-off encounter. Former City and Sunderland striker John Byrne, play-off hero Dean Kiely, now goalkeeper at West Bromwich Albion, Reading captain Graham Murty, Jon McCarthy and Nigel Pepper have all contacted the club to give their best wishes.
