YORK City have completed the signing of former Norwich City and St Johnstone midfielder Simon Lappin, subject to international clearance.
The 33-year-old has signed a deal until the end of the season and could make his debut in Saturday’s National League fixture at home to Dagenham & Redbridge.
The 5ft 11in midfielder began his career with St Mirren where he signed professional terms with the Buddies in 1999 and going on to make 179 appearances for the club across the next eight campaigns.
In 2006 he featured 45 times as the Paisley outfit clinched promotion to the Scottish Premier League, before his 24 outings against Scotland’s elite prompted Norwich to purchase him for £100,000 in January 2007.
Lappin’s time at Carrow Road would last much longer than the two-and-a-half years he originally signed up for and he remained there for six seasons, playing a prominent role as the Canaries clinched back-to-back promotions to the Premier League in 2011.
After making four appearances in the top-flight of English football, the Glaswegian went on to sign for Cardiff City and then experience a loan spell with Sheffield United before returning to Scotland in 2014 when putting pen-to-paper on a two-year deal with St Johnstone.
During the course of the next two campaigns, Lappin made a total of 58 appearances, scoring four goals.
