YORK City have signed Cardiff midfielder Theo Wharton on a one-year deal.
The 22-year-old St Kitts & Nevis international, who represented his country this month, will join Gary Mills’ squad, having ended last season at National League South outfit Weston-super-Mare.
Wharton made his professional debut for Cardiff during a 4-2 FA Cup defeat to West Brom back in January 2012 at the age of 17.
Then manager Malky Mackay predicted a “big first-team future” afterwards for Wharton, who represented Wales at under-17, 19 and 21 level before switching allegiance to the birthplace of his grandparents.
But he only made one more outing for the Bluebirds – during a 2-1 defeat to Macclesfield a year after his first senior appearance.
Wharton is also the godson of former Bolton forward Nathan Blake.
