GRAYS Athletic centre-back Jamie Stuart has been held in custody by Essex Police after being arrested on suspicion of assault.
The former England Under-21 international was questioned by police in relation to the incident that left York City striker Chris Beardsley with a broken jaw in two places.
Beardsley, 23, suffered the injury during an off-the-ball clash with Stuart during the Minstermen's 2-0 victory at Grays on Saturday, September 22.
Defender Stuart conceded a penalty and was sent off for violent conduct after his offence was spotted by one of referee David Phillips' assistants.
Beardsley reported the assault two days later after a one-hour operation at Derby Hospital, which saw three plates inserted into his jaw.
The former Mansfield and Kidderminster forward now faces three months on the sidelines.
An Essex Police spokesman said: "A 30-year-old Sidcup man has been arrested in connection with the assault and is in custody."
City, meanwhile, have taken Liverpool youth-team goalkeeper Josh Mimms on work experience.
Mimms, who is the 18-year-old son of former City, Everton and Tottenham stopper Bobby, will play in tonight's reserve game against Grimsby Town at KitKat Crescent.
The Rotherham-born second-year apprentice is currently vying with two other teenage 'keepers for the Anfield juniors' number one shirt.
Ross Greenwood, who has recovered from a fractured wrist, will also return to action in tonight's game, which kicks off at 7pm.
City reserves squad: Mimms, Craddock, Lloyd, Wroe, Stimpson, Parslow, Greenwood, Fry, Rhodes, Wrigley, Shephard, McWilliams, MacDonald, Radcliffe, Johnson, Spence.
