IT'S derby time on Bank Holiday Monday as Pickering Town host Tadcaster Albion in the Evo-Stik League east division (3pm).
The Brewers head to Mill Lane full of confidence after a late screamer from Will Annan gave them a 2-1 home victory over Gresley on Saturday – keeping their play-off hopes alive.
Gresley, who sit rooted to the bottom of the division, took the lead through Spencer Weir-Daley and threatened to spring a surprise.
However, despite the below par performance from Albion, goals from Aiden Savory and Annan sealed a dogged victory on a scorching afternoon in Tadcaster.
With Sheffield FC losing, the gap to the final play-off spot was reduced to three points, making Taddy’s trip to Pickering another must-win game.
Gresley made a strong start at the i2i Stadium and found the net after 15 minutes before the offside flag came to Taddy's rescue.
Six minutes on, a driving run from Luke Porritt saw the winger brought down for a penalty. However, Aaron Hardy side-footed the spot-kick against the post to keep the match scoreless.
The unpredictable contest took another twist when Gresley broke the deadlock. Connor Deards threaded a through ball to Weir-Daley whose left-footed effort beat Michael Ingham.
It was a frustrating afternoon for the hosts until the 75th minute when Paddy Miller’s thumping free-kick was parried by Ben Allsop, allowing Savory to guide home his 12th goal of the season.
Albion snatched all three points with four minutes remaining when Annan feinted past two defenders before smashing an unstoppable strike into the roof of the net.
Taddy were almost denied in the final minute though, when Devante Reittie raced clear only to be denied by an exceptional save from Albion skipper Michael Ingham.
Pickering, meanwhile, grabbed a 1-1 draw at Wisbech Town on Saturday – thanks to Matthew Turnbull's 90th-minute goal.
The Pikes had fallen behind in the 54th minute through Toby Hilliard's finish for the hosts.
Scarborough Athletic face a tough Bank Holiday Monday test at South Shields in the premier division.
Goals from James Walshaw and Michael Coulson gave the Seadogs a 2-0 home victory over Grantham Town on Saturday.
In the Northern Counties East League premier division, Knaresborough Town were beaten 2-1 at Yorkshire Amateur, with Brad Walker netting their 59th minute reply. Harrogate Railway Athletic were without a game.
Selby Town lost 2-0 at Hallam in division one, leaving them eighth in the table.
Harrogate Town host Gateshead at the CNG Stadium on Bank Holiday Monday following Good Friday's 2-0 defeat at Leyton Orient. Simon Weaver's men are sixth in the table ahead of their clash with the Heed.
