ANDREW Gale admitted his frustration after seeing Yorkshire fail to clinch victory for the second Royal London one-day Cup game running after another grandstand finish, this time against Lancashire at Emerald Headingley.
Yorkshire lost by one run as they chased 312 to beat their arch-rivals in front of a 4,683 crowd on Family Fun Day and finished on 310 all out.
They needed 16 off the last over, bowled by Saqib Mahmood, and three off the last ball, only for Josh Poysden to be run out going for two.
On Friday, the Vikings tied against Warwickshire at Edgbaston when they needed two off the last ball.
It means, after three North Group games, they have won one, tied one and lost one.
The first Roses match of the summer swung this way and that.
Lancashire recovered from 116-4 to post 311-6 and Yorkshire 87-3 to set the mayhem at the death.
Steven Croft hit 97 for Lancashire, added to half-centuries for Rob Jones and Josh Bohannon. Tom Kohler-Cadmore hit 97 for Yorkshire, supported by Gary Ballance’s 72.
"I thought the first half of the game up to the last three overs, we were outstanding,” said coach Gale. “We did some really good stuff.
"You have to give Lancashire credit.
“I thought the Croft and Jones partnership, they played really well. But 40 odd runs off Tim Bresnan's last two overs, we didn't get that right.
“But we were still confident at half-time that we had enough in the tent to knock them off.
"We then made some poor decisions under pressure with the bat.
"I thought it was good pitch. The new ball always does a bit.
"We got off to a good start with the bat in the first six overs, but we just made some poor decisions.
"It was a cracking game and a fantastic advert for county cricket.
“To go right down to the last ball, it was a fantastic spectacle. But it's not good for me as head coach!
“The last two games have gone down to the last ball, and unfortunately we haven't got over the line in either.”
Yorkshire face Derbyshire in their next match at Emerald Headingley on Friday (11am).
