YORK City centre-back Sean Newton has admitted he has precious few fond memories of the FA Cup - but is hoping that will change tomorrow.
One incident in particular stands out for him. As a teenager at then Conference North outfit Droylsden, Newton was a key figure in propelling his side to an unlikely third-round meeting with Ipswich Town.
The Bloods beat League Two outfits Darlington and Chesterfield en route, with Newton netting a brace against the Spireites - only to find he was ineligible for the tie and Droylsden to be expelled from the Cup.
The Minstermen's game against higher-tier Stockport County at Bootham Crescent in the fourth qualifying round will be televised on BT Sport 1 (5.20pm).
The winner will go into the hat for the first round proper - but, following Bury's expulsion from the Football League, it will get even better for one of the 79 teams in the hat, as the last side drawn out will receive a bye to the second round.
And Newton reckons York City have all the tools to put on a match-winning performance tomorrow - but does not want to look too far beyond Stockport.
"I was 18 and on loan at Droylsden," he explained. "We beat Darlington and Chesterfield in the first and second rounds. I scored two against Chesterfield.
"We got Ipswich in the third round and got thrown out because I was suspended.
"In terms of the FA Cup, I've got no good memories so I'm hoping this could be the start.
"The FA Cup is an exciting cup," he added.
"We've been drawn against a good side. They went up from our league last year and it will be a very good test for us.
"I don't think we can look too far ahead.
"Some lads are saying if you get to the first round you could get into the second without playing the first round game.
"It would be brilliant to be in the draw Monday and I think we've got everything in the dressing room to give them a game, if not win it."
The one and only time York have faced Stockport in the FA Cup was in November 1992. Stockport, then of the old Second Division, beat Third-Division outfit York 3-1 at Bootham Crescent.
After back-to-back matches away from home Newton - who made 50 appearances for the Hatters between 2012 and 2013 - is looking forward to playing in front of a home crowd, and a potentially sizeable one at that..
He said: "It'll be good to be back, especially with the game it is.
"They're a good club and we're a good club. Neither club should be in non-league to be honest.
"It should be a good game.
"That's why the cameras are coming - they're hoping for an upset and we are as well."
"I enjoyed my time there," he continued. "The manager's a great man and there was no doubt in my mind he would get them promoted because he's very thorough.
"He's very detailed in what he does. He'll know everything about us and we know everything about them because our gaffer's the same.
"I think their fanbase has been the best in non-league since they've been in it.
"I think they'll bring a few - I don't think being on telly will stop their fans from coming.
"I imagine we'll have a good few there too."
