WIGGINTON Grasshoppers FC have honoured their founder and club president by unveiling the name of the community pavilion at Mill Lane.
The pavilion has been named after John Jeffery, who founded the club in 1982 and has worked tirelessly in the local area since, serving on Wigginton Parish Council and the Wigginton Playing Fields Association.
He has also carried out the role of president of the York Minster Engineering Football League, a position in which he continues, despite recently moving to Yarm so that he and his wife, Wendy, can be closer to their daughter.
John, who will turn 80 in April, is known to many as 'Mr Wigginton' and is fondly known to many in the local area for the several decades during which he worked as the caretaker at Wigginton Primary School, where he settled happily after fulfilling a similar role at Ralph Butterfield School.
A club spokesperson said: "The last 38 years have seen John at the centre of the development and success of Wigginton Grasshoppers.
"It was only right that he was present to unveil the signage that bares his name."
The pavilion, which contains new changing facilities along with a community room and kitchen area, is expected to open in early April.
