BOXING legend Ricky Hatton is set to visit York in September, in an event hosted by Henry’s Gym in Acomb.

The event, ‘An Afternoon With Ricky Hatton’, is scheduled to take place on Sunday, September 27, from 1pm to 5pm.

However, this is permitting upon whether the government descales its current self-isolation advice amid the global coronavirus pandemic.

A ticket for the event at Henry’s Gym - run by York boxing legend Henry Wharton, a former three-time world title challenger during the 1990s - includes a photo with Hatton.

Writing on Instagram, Henry’s Gym said: “Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have had to reschedule our Afternoon with Ricky Hatton.

“All original tickets are still valid, so (there is) no need to contact us.

“If you’d like to join us, tickets are still available.”

The famed Manchester-born boxer won four world titles across his two weight divisions during his distinguished career, spanning from 1997 to 2012.

At light welterweight, Hatton won the IBO, IBF and WBA ‘Super’ world titles before stepping up to welterweight, where he picked up the WBA world title.

Hatton was also named as Fighter of the Year in 2005 by the prestigious Ring Magazine, becoming the first British fighter to win the award since its inception in 1928.

He also boxed all-time greats Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao during his 48 professional contests.

l Tickets for the event can be purchased for £40, with anyone interested in purchasing a ticket advised to contact Henry’s Gym on their social media accounts, on Twitter (@henrywhartongym) or on Instagram (henrywhartongym).
