CITY of York Athletic Club enjoyed success in the English Schools Track & Field national finals in Manchester, where the Minster city outfit made up the bulk of competitors from North Yorkshire.
There were 25 athletes representing North Yorkshire, and 15 of those were from City of York.
On July 9 was the senior athlete’s competition, which Joseph O’Brien kicked off with a win in the 3000 metres in a personal-best time of 8:20.82 minutes.
Luke Robinson then finished 12th in the senior boys javelin with a throw of 49.23m before Izzi O’Brien - Joe's sister - finished fifth in the 1500m steeplechase with a personal best of 5:08.25.
City of York athlete Lukas Bradshaw was representing Humberside and finished 11th in the discus with a throw of 38.55m.
The day after was the inter girls and boys competition. In the 300m hurdles, Frances Hogg finished fourth with a time of 45.41 seconds and Sonya Chechik finished 10th with a personal-best time of 47.79.
In the 400m hurdles, Isaac Henson finished 11th with a personal best of 63.28. Charlie Wright finished the 1500m steeplechase 6th in a time of 4:53.43.
Aaron Rutter finished sixth in the shot put with 12.65m.
Sunday, July 11, was the final day and featured the junior girls and boys competition.
Grace Green-Hemmings came 13th in the javelin with a throw of 29.21m, Kathryn Clague fourth in the shot put with 10.93m and Lewis Rutter 12th in the javelin with 37.12m.
Esme Pounder finished 10th in the high jump with a clearance of 1.51m and Emily Maude second in the long jump with 5.61m.
Lottie Langan finished third in the 800m in a time of 2:14.99 minutes.
City of York's Freya Vidal represented Humberside, finishing fourth in the 200m with a time of 25.67 seconds.
Meanwhile, City of York sit second in the Northern Athletics League with one match to go after finishing second on points in Cleckheaton on Sunday.
For the third match of the competition, 25 City of York athletes took part at the Princess Mary Stadium.
There was a win for James Palmer in the men’s 400m 'B' race in a time of 51.85 seconds, while Tom Wood came second in the 'A' race with 50.86 seconds.
Charlotte Stamp won the women’s 400m with a personal best of 56.21 seconds, while Gabi Burton won the 'B' race in 59.92. Burton and Chrissie Dover also secured the win for both 'A' and 'B' 400m hurdles races.
Angus McMillan won the men’s 800m in a personal best time of 1:56.36 minutes. He also won the men’s 5000m with a time of 14:42.41.
The men and women’s 4x100 relay teams both finished second in their respective races. The women won their 4x400m race while the men placed second.
In the field events, Isabel Lee gained a new pole vault personal best, with a jump of 2.3m. Daniel Fleming won both the men’s shot put and discus, throwing 14.63m and 49.10m, respectively.
Maria Schofield won the women’s hammer competition with a throw of 52.47m. Oliver Wright won the men’s 'A'-string javelin with a throw of 55.81m while Luke Robinson won the 'B' string with a season’s best throw of 55.03m.
The next match will take place on Sunday, August 1 at Sheffield Hallam University athletics stadium.
