DEFENDING champion Neil Robertson was knocked out of the UK Championship by amateur John Astley after suffering a 6-2 first round defeat at the York Barbican.
Robertson, the three-time and reigning champion, trailed 4-1 but responded with a 124 break in the sixth frame.
Astley came back to score a 119 century of his own and then a fluked brown secured an historic win.
Robertson said: "He (Astley) played a great match, he was fearless out there and I think in the first four or five frames I was off the pace.
"Maybe I was just lacking a little bit of focus and energy to play at the right tempo.
"He played a brilliant match, so every credit to him."
Elsewhere, reigning Masters champion Bingtao Tan progressed past thrice women's world champion Ng On Yee 6-0.
World number 15 Jack Lisowski won by the same scoreline against Sean Maddocks.
Snooker legend Stephen Hendry fell to a crushing 6-1 defeat against Thepchaiya Uh-Nooh, who knocked in five centuries en route to victory.
