YORK Indoor Bowls Club ‘A’ started their Yorkshire County League division one season strongly with a comfortable 111-59 win over club-mates York ‘B’.
The win earned the ‘A’ side 12 points from a possible 14.
Luke Edwards, David White, Graham Brooke and Craig Newton 48-8 over Graham Instone’s rink, while Malcolm Lewars had a comfortable 29-15 victory over Pete Bradley’s rink.
John Crowe’s York ‘A’ rink beat Malcolm Bulmer’s rink 23-18 while David Dale’s rink picked up two points for York ‘B’ by beating Neal Macdonald’s rink 18-11.
York ‘C’ claimed 12 points with victory over New Earswick ‘B’ in division three by winning both home rinks and one away.
Mick Snowden and Trevor Scott skipped the rinks at home, beating Brian Birch and John Snowden 23-16 and 28-12, respectively, while Tony Bryan beat R. Walker 25-18 at New Earswick.
A. Nicholson got Earswick’s points by beating Ray Clark 26-16.
In the Egham Trophy, York progressed to the fourth round by beating Harrogate 87-71 in the first round, Leeds convincingly in the second, and Hornsea 85-80 in the third.
As the scoreline suggests, the Hornsea game was a close encounter throughout.
At 10 ends, Hornsea had narrowed the gap to 42-41 before edging 62-61 in front at the 15th end. By the 18th end, it was 72-72.
York will play Hartlepool in the fourth round on Sunday at 10am.
Meanwhile, York’s Ladies lost 73-67 to North Cave in the Yetton Trophy third round.
North Cave took early control of the encounter and though York battled back from a 20-shot deficit, they had left themselves too much to do.
