NEW Earswick Falcons came out on top 77-62 in their derby clash with York Vikings in the Yorkshire Over-55s League, writes Terry Shepherdson.
New Earswick got off to a strong start on home soil as Dave Imeson, Bob Elliot, Eric Cookson and Gary Jones secured a comfortable 29-14 victory on the first rink against York's Alan. Hampshire, David. Clough, Nigel McDonald and Phil Parsons.
York hit back when Ken Griffiths, Mick Cooney, Dave White and Graham Brooke narrowly edged past the Falcons' Andy Humphreys, Brian Birch, Ralph Tiplady and Dick Osguthorpe to prevail 17-16.
In the first Thanet Road rink, New Earswick's John Harrison, Paul Murray, Alan Shearer and Colin Pickup secured a 21-13 win having been tied at 10-10 after the first 11 ends.
They were up against Alan Vowles, Alan Braitwaite, Trevor Wilford, and Dave Dale of York.
Similarly to the action in New Earswick, again the Vikings responded, winning the final rink 18-11 through Harvey Wenham, Peter Riley, Gordon Fennell and Mal Bulmer.
New Earswick's Dave Clayden, Dave Crane, Barry Johnson and Kevin Liddell had at one point led 10-4.
