YORK Acorn will make the trip to Scotland to face Edinburgh Eagles in the first round of the Betfred Challenge Cup.

Acorn will return to rugby league's storied cup competition for the first time since the 2020 season after the coronavirus pandemic ended their involvement last season.

Should York overcome Edinburgh in their tie on the weekend of January 15/16, they would then host the winner of Jarrow Vikings against Wests Warriors.

That potential tie would take place on the weekend of January 29/30.

Edinburgh are the sole Scottish representative in the Challenge Cup this year and become the first club from Scotland to feature in the competition in 1999.

The Eagles picked up the North East Rugby League title in 2019 after defeating Jarrow Vikings thanks to a remarkable 38-34 victory.

Full Betfred Challenge Cup first round draw: West Hull v Upton, Featherstone Lions v Hunslet Club Parkside, Leigh Miners Rangers v Milford, Siddal v Great British Police, Lock Lane v Thatto Heath Crusaders, London Chargers v Ellenborough Rangers, Thornhill Trojans v RAF, Jarrow Vikings v Wests Warriors, Galway Tribesmen v Pilkington Recs, Edinburgh Eagles v York Acorn, Rochdale Mayfield v Wigan St Patricks, Bentley v Stanningley, Bridgend Blue Bulls v Royal Navy, Orrell St James v British Army.
