YORK & District Indoor Bowls Club’s secretary and manager Ian Clough has decided to retire and leave the club after nearly 24 years in charge.

Prior to joining the bowls club, Clough had spent 13 years as club secretary with both York and Dewsbury rugby league clubs.

Clough was the indoor bowls reporter for the York Press for 20 years before being succeeded by team manager John Crowe at the start of this season.

Speaking about Clough’s retirement, a York and District Indoor Bowls Club spokesperson hailed his impact after almost a quarter of a century at the club.

They said: “During his time at York IBC, the club have enjoyed their most successful period out of their 49-year existence.

“We have won six national team competitions and 29 county league titles, becoming one of the most prestigious clubs in England.

Clough himself added said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the club and have met many friends not only at York IBC but with many other clubs throughout the country.

“I will miss the daily chats with members but know this is the right time to go.

“I would like to wishes my successor John Crowe the best of luck and hope that he has as much satisfaction as I have enjoyed.”
