YORK amateur boxer Arlo Stephens prepared for next month’s Elite National Championships by winning the Yorkshire Elite Challenge super-heavyweight belt.
Stephens won a points verdict over Bradford’s Peter Naylor in his first bout of the year at Doncaster.
The hard-hitting Naylor, who weighed in heavier than his York counterpart, landed some heavy body shots in the first round against Stephens.
But the York Boxing Club talent stuck to his game plan and boxing smartly from long range and soon began to land hurtful straight rights to take the decision.
Next up for Stephens is the Elite National Championships, formerly and most commonly known as the ABAs, in March.
Stephens is sponsored by Cain Decorators Ltd.
