YORK City remain in pursuit of another defender, despite the loan signing of Sam Sanders this week.
Interim manager John Askey brought in Sanders from Nottingham Forest earlier this week, who is best suited at centre-half.
Askey has expressed his desire for further cover at full-back, where Scott Barrow and Michael Duckworth remain the club’s sole recognised players.
“We had no cover in any of the positions at the back, aside from dropping Akil back to centre-back and I think when we do that, we miss him in midfield,” he said, when speaking about the decision to bring in Sanders.
“We probably need another defender in as well. If Scott or Michael go down then we’ll obviously be struggling to fill those positions.”
On new recruit Sanders, Askey added: “I’ve seen a bit of Sam. He’s come in from Nottingham Forest and he’s been playing for their Under-23s on a regular basis.
“He can play all across the back four, so I feel like it’s a good addition. He’s big and strong and mobile and he’s a good footballer.
“Hopefully he will adapt to this league and this level and we’ll need him over the next few weeks.”
