NEW Earswick Falcons fell to a heavy 101-55 defeat against Redcar in the Over-55s Yorkshire League, writes Terry Butcher.
The first home leg was a rollercoaster of a game which swung various directions before losing 21-16.
New Earswick's Dave Clayden, Dave Crane, Bill Waldie and Kevin Lidell won the first five ends before Redcar rallied to lead 9-5.
Earswick regained their advantage at 12-9 before again Redcar hit back to go 15-14 up.
A single at the next end levelled the scores at 15-15 before Redcar scored a six to prevail as winners by a five-score margin.
Dave Imeson, Brian Birch, Ralph Tiplady and Dick Osguthorpe had the better of their visitors in a 16-14 triumph.
The home side went 9-5 in front before Redcar responded to reduce the deficit to just one at 15-14.
The Falcons picked up a single on the last to narrowly prevail as winners.
Over on the East Coast, New Earswick found it tough going in the early stages as the visiting John Harrison, Paul Murray, Alan Shearer and Colin Pickup lost the first four ends to trail 0-11.
New Earswick won four of the next five ends to pull the score back to 5-13 but only scored at one of the last 12 ends to go down 7-34.
Similarly, Dave Furness, Bob Elliot, Gary Jones & Paul Dawson fell behind early on against Redcar and soon found themselves 18-4 behind.
The Redcar lead increased to 20, at 29-9, and while Earswick pulled a few shots back they were eventually beaten 32-12.
New Earswick eventually finished with a couple of points while Redcar concluded with a dozen more to their tally.
