CITY of York Athletic Club’s Lottie Langan won a silver medal in the National Cross Country Championships.
The competition was held on Saturday at Parliament Hill in London.
Langan made a good start up the quarter-mile climb at the start of the race as she established herself in the lead group.
The diminutive Isabella Waugh from Rotherham pulled away on the first lap and had opened up a gap of 50 metres from Langan with two other runners about 10 metres further back.
Waugh continued to pull away on the second lap to win by around 100 metres, with Langan being caught by a pair of chasing runners in hot pursuit.
However, another effort on the downhill finish saw Langan come home in second place just two seconds ahead of Lilia Harris of Rotherham.
On Friday night, Katy Wood won the first five-kilometre race in the York 5k series that was held at the University of York Cycle Circuit.
Wood finished in a time of 16 minutes and 48 seconds.
Steve Asquith came fourth in the same race, finishing in 16.35.
On Sunday, the club had a lot of runners taking part in the popular Snake Lane 10 race at Pocklington.
Josh Breen led the club home in 61.31.
Samantha Hirst was the first women home from the club, in 73.37.
In fell running, Amy Kennedy of City of York came second in the Under-17 Yorkshire Fell Running Championships.
