YORK ACORN sank to a home defeat as the visiting Lock Lane cruised past them 44-14 at Thanet Road in the National Conference League premier division.

Lock Lane were clearly the better side throughout the game and held a commanding 26-2 lead at half-time and although there were signs of fight from the hosts they were unable to overcome the deficit.

The hosts took an initial lead through a Josh Parker penalty goal, yet in spite of that, Acorn were unable to hold their slender advantage.

Tries from Dan Sowerby, Tom Sowerby, Calum Butler and James Cranswick led the way for The Lane’s attack, who were relentless for much of the game.

Acorn’s offence paled in comparison to the dominance of their opponents.

A faint glimmer of hope was offered as Parker converted two tries in the second half from Nathan Welsh and Nic Speck, but the Lane soon put an end to their growing aspirations, closing out the game in convincing fashion.

The loss leaves Acorn at the bottom of the division with only two games played but with 80 points conceded, 30 more than the second-worst defence so far.

Heworth earned their first win of the new NCL division two campaign with a dominant 42-6 victory away at Bradford Dudley Hill.

Despite the hosts opening the match scoring through an Adrian Batley try and Neil Wall conversion, Heworth soon saw themselves leading through scoring efforts from Tyler Craig and a brilliant diving finish from Cam Taylor.

Mistakes were apparent in Heworth’s game, such as their first-half failures of scoring conversions.

Thankfully for the Villagers though, they were able to prevent Bradford from coming back into the game.

Leading 12-6 at the beginning of the second half, Heworth went on an attacking onslaught as the tie resumed.

A Jack Aldous try increased the visitors’ advantage, which was improved by Danny Allen.

The kicking was much better in the second 40 minutes and helped Heworth in establishing their lead.

Tyler Craig scored the final try and Allen’s fifth conversion saw Heworth finish as deserved winners.

New Earswick All Blacks kicked off their 2022 Yorkshire Mens League premier division season with a hard fought 24-16 win at Nottingham Outlaws.

A Ronan Barbarian try gave Nottingham an early lead but moments later the All Blacks went in front thanks to Sean Malarkey’s try, converted by Connor Calam, his first of four attempts.

Joe Harrison’s try gave New Earswick a 12-4 lead at half time.

New Earswick doubled their advantage early in the second half through Jack Law and Joe Harrison tries.

A late surge from Nottingham saw the deficit reduced to eight, but New Earswick were able to hold on for the victory.

Next up for York Acorn is a home game against West Hull on Saturday.

Heworth will host Wigan St Judes while New Earswick All Blacks will entertain Brighouse Rangers.
