YORK snooker star Ashley Hugill is two wins away from a maiden appearance in the World Snooker Championship's main draw after a 6-0 win over Dean Young.
Hugill made 50-plus breaks en route to the whitewash victory over Young, scoring a game-high break of 84 to win the opening frame.
After winning the second frame 67-43, the 27-year-old then hit another half-century break (54) in the 90-7 third to move 3-0 ahead.
That advantage was stretched to 4-0 at the mid-session interval as the world number 77 edged the fourth 61-32.
Young rallied to ensure that Hugill would have to work at hard until the finish, but the latter eventually took the fifth and sixth frames, on 67-49 and 53-17 scorelines respectively.
Next up for Hugill is a third round qualifying clash with former German Masters champion and world number 20 Martin Gould on Sunday.
The winner will face either Joe O'Connor, Barry Pinches or Ben Woollaston for a main draw spot.
