MICHAEL WOODS has joined South Shields following his departure from York City.
Woods spent two seasons at York and was invited back for pre-season by the club in its released and retained list last week.
The York-born central midfielder turned down that opportunity though and has now joined Pitching In Northern Premier League premier division side South Shields.
The Mariners will again be seeking promotion to the Vanarama National League North next season, having missed out through the play-offs, despite placing second, three points behind champions Buxton.
Woods follows in the footsteps of fellow midfielder Mackenzie Heaney in making the move from York to South Shields this summer.
The 32-year-old is the third departed City player to confirm his next club after Heaney and Sean Newton, the latter having turned his loan to Buxton into a permanent switch.
Meanwhile, former York forward Macaulay Langstaff has joined Vanarama National League promotion chasers Notts County on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee from Gateshead.
Langstaff was the National League North’s top goal-scorer and player of the season in 2021/22.
