YORK CC face a must-win clash away to Hunters ECB Yorkshire Premier League North title rivals Driffield Town this weekend.
Driffield boast an 18-point lead over second-placed York at the top of the premier division ahead of Saturday’s meeting (12pm). With only four league matches remaining, an away victory would keep the Clifton Park side’s title hopes alive.
Both sides took home 10 points last weekend, with York beating Clifton Alliance by 138 runs and Driffield winning by six wickets against Woodhouse Grange.
At Clifton Park, Duncan Snell fell just short of a century as he made 98 while Luke Kilby was run out on 50 as the hosts posted 236-8.
Alliance’s reply never got started as their top four made just a combined 20 runs. Captain Liam Green top-scored with 31 as the visitors were all out for just 98 in 30.2 overs.
Ryan McKendry stood out with the ball, finishing with innings-best figures of 4-35.
Driffield were also convincing winners at Woodhouse Grange, bowling their opponents out for 194 in 44.2 overs.
Fritz De Beer (81), Harry Jackson (35) and Harry Gamble (23) were three of only four players to reach double figures, the latter falling to Mayank Mishra (4-34).
Town opener Alec Drury’s 91 not out led the charge to 197-4 inside 35.1 overs, with Owen Goldsworthy (30) and Sam Drury (44) also making handy runs.
Grange bounced back later in the weekend, beating Scarborough by six wickets.
Breidyn Schaper finished on an unbeaten 96, having earlier seen Brad Milburn depart for 57, as Boro scored 200-8 from 34 overs.
In reply, Bilton’s 65 and useful contributions from Gamble (38), De Beer (36) and Daniel Barrett (35) saw Grange reach 201-4 with five balls to spare.
Woodhouse are 10 points behind Sheriff Hutton Bridge with a game in hand on their third-placed rivals following the latter’s 87-runs loss to Castleford.
Cas posted a commanding 237-7 thanks to half-centuries from Brayden Clark (80) and Liam Hyde (63).
Sheriff Hutton struggled against the bowling of Eddie Morrison (5-43) and were all out for 150 in 36.1 overs.
At the bottom of the table, struggling Acomb lost heavily, falling to a 171-runs defeat by Harrogate.
Acomb were up against it when Harrogate made a staggering 351-7, the highest individual score of which was opener Isaac Light’s 124.
Ishan Abeysekara closed on 65no from 32 balls and stood out with the ball too. His 5-60 was the stand-out bowling display in Acomb falling to 180 all out in 31.4 overs.
Third-from-bottom Sessay were the lowest scorers of the round, being skittled for 47 in 20.1 overs by Scarborough.
Liam Carver (17) was the only player to make double digits in an innings containing five ducks. Daniel Robson claimed a remarkable 5-9 in 5.1 overs.
That followed Boro’s 183-8, which featured an 85 from Schaper, his side winning by 136 runs.
