JOHN ASKEY believes that goalkeeper Ethan Ross has "more than" replaced Peter Jameson for York City.
Ross has made a bright start to life between the sticks for York, keeping a clean sheet on his competitive debut for City in a 2-0 win over Woking earlier this month.
Although he conceded twice in Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Maidstone United, Ross was not at fault for either goal and made a first-half penalty save for the Minstermen.
The Stockport County season-long loanee has big boots to fill after reigning Clubman of the Year Jameson's off-season departure to Sky Bet League Two side Harrogate Town.
But he has already won the early race against fellow keeper Ryan Whitley and shown promising signs on the field.
“He’s done really well,” enthused manager Askey.
“I don’t think he could have done much better than he has. It’s still early days, but Ethan has looked strong.
“Replacing Pete was always going to be a difficult job, but he’s more than done that.”
Ross is one of 17 signings City have made this summer, the club having almost completely revamped their side since promotion to the Vanarama National League.
In spite of such an influx of new faces, the City boss feels there is little challenge in integrating them into his system.
“It’s the norm,” he said. “I think at most football clubs now, there’s changes for the majority (of them) and we’re no different.
"It’s something I’m used to and I think players are used to.
“(The squad gelling) has gone well, we won the first game and played really well.
“We should have come away with something at Maidstone, it’s disappointing that we didn’t.
“They’ve come in and we look quite strong.”
