AN INJURY-HIT York City Knights have named just 17 players in their squad to travel to Betfred Championship leaders Leigh Centurions on Sunday (3pm).
York have 10 players unavailable this weekend, with five dropping out from the side which lost 20-16 at home to Bradford Bulls on Monday night.
Brendan O’Hagan, Pauli Pauli, Jordan Thompson, Danny Kirmond and Ata Hingano all come out of the Knights squad, the latter being ineligible to play against the club he is on loan from until the end of the season.
O’Hagan and Kirmond picked up minor injuries against Bradford and are hoped to be able to feature against Sheffield Eagles next Friday night at the LNER Community Stadium (7.30pm).
Pauli and Thompson have been sent for scans on knocks suffered in the Bulls clash and also miss out.
Teenage full-back Myles Harrison returns to the Knights squad after featuring on loan for Rochdale Hornets in a 26-20 defeat at Doncaster earlier this month.
A knee injury continues to keep out Leeds Rhinos loanee Levi Edwards while former Heworth pair Brad Ward and Toby Warren are also unavailable.
Will Oakes (groin), Masi Matongo (shoulder) and Olly Butterworth (ACL) are out for the rest of the season.
The issue comes as James Ford’s side head for Leigh on Sunday, taking on a side who have won 22 of their 23 league fixtures this year, including all of their last 21 Championship fixtures.
The star-studded Centurions have spent heavily in pursuit of an immediate return to Betfred Super League. Seven of Leigh’s 17 that won 60-0 at Newcastle Thunder last time out have played in the NRL. None of the York squad that faces them this weekend have appeared in Australia and New Zealand’s top flight by contrast.
York City Knights squad: Marsh, Brown, Glover, Ogden, Ellis, Jubb, Teanby, Clarkson, Dixon, Stock, Harris, Harrison, Towse, Michael, Antrobus, Porter, Inman.
