TADCASTER Albion are the only Pitching In Northern Premier League east side yet to pick up a win from their six league matches heading into Saturday’s home clash with high-flying Hebburn Town (3pm).

Tadcaster endured a miserable Bank Holiday weekend, drawing 0-0 at home with Grantham Town before going down 3-0 at Brighouse Town.

Albion failed to score against a Grantham side who were down to 10 men for almost the final half-hour, after Charlie Jemson was shown a red card, while three goals in the final dozen minutes saw Brighouse triumph. A Jack Johnson own goal was followed by a Laurence Sorhaindo brace.

Those pair of results leave the Brewers third-from-bottom in the NPL east, above only Lincoln United and Grimsby Borough, both of whom have played less matches.

Tadcaster’s bid to end a winless eight-game start to the season will not get any easier on Saturday as they entertain Hebburn.

Town have taken 13 points from their first six matches and currently sit second in the table. Three of their four wins to date have come away from home.

Meanwhile, Pickering Town continued their upturn in turn with a 2-1 win at Redcar Town in the Isuzu FA Vase first qualifying round.

A first-half double from Harry Jessop saw the Pikes progress and take their run to one defeat from their last four matches. Carl Williams provided the only reply for Redcar.

Pickering travel to Heaton Stannington in the Ebac Northern League division one tonight (7.45pm).

Elsewhere, Selby Town put themselves on the cusp of a Toolstation Northern Counties East League division one play-off place with a 1-0 home win over Horbury Town.

Liam Flanagan scored the only goal of the game with seven minutes left to leave Selby sixth, one place outside the play-offs on goal difference only.

The Robins visit seventh-placed Retford FC on Saturday (3pm).
