DRIFFIELD Town clinched the Hunters ECB Yorkshire Premier League North premier division title at the expense York after both sides lost on Bank Holiday Monday.

York fell to a 95 runs defeat at Castleford while Driffield were beaten by nine runs at home to Clifton Alliance.

The four batting points Town earned in defeat were enough to ensure an unassailable 12-point lead above title rivals York with one match to spare.

Driffield appeared in complete control when they bowled Clifton out for 125 in 38.2 overs thanks to four-wicket hauls from James Anson (4-37) and Mayank Mishra (4-23).

However a five-for from David Friend (5-30) saw Town fall short of the target at 116 all out in 31.4 overs.

The efforts of Sam Drury (31) and Mishra (35), two of only three Driffield players to reach double figures, were enough to take a highly valuable four batting points in defeat.

York squandered their chance to take the title race to the final day after suffering a bruising loss away to Castleford.

Brayden Clark (64) led the hosts to 189 all out in 47.5 overs. Clark's wicket fell to stand-out bowler Dave Brent (5-38).

Having reached 55-2, York then remarkably collapsed to 94 all out in 29.1 overs with only Duncan Snell (18) and Ryan McKendry (23) surpassing 10.

Just a couple of days earlier, both Driffield and York claimed victories over Beverley Town and Harrogate respectively.

Sam Drury (52) top-scored as Driffield made 211-7, with Beverley only able to score 182-6 in reply, losing by29 runs.

York won more decisively, prevailing by 79 runs, thanks to half-centuries from Snell (54) and William Wade (51) in posting 228-8 before Harrogate were all out for 149 in 37.3 overs.

Harrogate recovered to beat Beverley by 69 runs, setting an imposing 250-6 before Town were all out for 181 in 46.3 overs.

Elsewhere, Scarborough lost both their Bank Holiday weekend matches.

Sheriff Hutton Bridge hit a weekend-high 290-5 before Scarborough's response ended at 122 all out from exactly 34 overs, defeated by five wickets.

Relegated Acomb then picked up only their first win from 20 matches this season, beating Boro by six wickets.

Acomb reached 184-4 inside 42.1 overs after Scarborough were 182 all out in 48.4.

Earlier in the weekend, Acomb fell to a three-wicket loss against Sessay.

All out for 186 in 46.4, the bottom club were unable to deny Sessay, who made 189-7 in 43.1.

Sessay went on to lose by five wickets at home to Woodhouse Grange. The visitors needed just 31.2 overs to reach 159-5 in response to Sessay's 157 all out in 43.3.

Meanwhile, Castleford won a high-scoring affair with Grange by three wickets.

Woodhouse made 225-8 but Cas responded with an impressive run to 226-7 with an over and two balls to spare.
