PAUL JUBB'S bid to for a first US Open main draw appearance came to an end after suffering a defeat in three sets to Gijs Brouwer.
The York-born star defeated Antoine Bellier and Pedro Sousa, both over three sets, to leave himself one win away from a maiden spot in the US Open first round.
The 22-year-old just fell short though against Brouwer, who is 25 ATP ranking places above Jubb.
The opening set saw Jubb enjoy early success, breaking the Dutchman's serve in the fourth game and building a 5-2 lead.
Brouwer fought back to win to force a tie-break, which he won 7-3.
Jubb rallied to level up the match by winning the second set 6-3, breaking the Brouwer twice in doing so.
A nervy third and final set followed as both players were unable to hold serve through the first three games.
Houston-born Brouwer finally did manage to do so in the fourth and sixth while crucially breaking Jubb in-between.
After a tough hold of serve for Jubb, Brouwer secured his US Open main draw spot with a 6-2 final set win.
