YORK City Knights have tied player of the year favourite Jordan Thompson down to a three-year deal, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2025 season.

Thompson joined York in the off-season from Leigh Centurions and has quickly established himself as a vital player for the Knights, featuring 26 times this term and scoring five tries.

The loose forward's performances have seen him leading the ongoing online poll by the Knights Supporters Society to determine the KSS player of the year.

The former Castleford Tigers, Hull FC and Leeds Rhinos back-rower follows half-back Ata Hingano in signing a deal until the end of 2025, with Matty Marsh, Jacob Ogden, Chris Clarkson, Toby Warren, Myles Harrison, AJ Towse, Brad Ward and Olly Butterworth also already signed up for next year.

Thompson said: “I’m really happy to be staying. As soon as I came to the club, I hit the ground running and I’ve really enjoyed my rugby since starting here.

"It was a no-brainer for me to sign to stay at the Knights.

“A three-year deal gives me some stability for me and my family and it’s a vote of confidence in what Fordy (James Ford, head coach) and Clint (Goodchild, chairman) think of me.

"The trust that they have put into me is massive and I just want to give that back in terms of performance.

“Moving forwards, having spoken to Clint when we were talking about the new deal, it’s clear he’s looking for big things over the next few years to build to make us even stronger.

"I’m glad to be a part of it and I’ll keep playing my part for the club.”
