CO-CAPTAIN Katie Langan insists that there will be no complacency from York City Knights Ladies on Sunday (3pm) as they aim to back up last week’s League Leaders’ Shield triumph by securing their place in the Betfred Women’s Super League Grand Final.

York won 22-14 at Leeds Rhinos on Sunday to secure a maiden Shield title and the club’s first major trophy.

The Knights return to Headingley Stadium to take Wigan Warriors in the play-off semi-finals, aiming to earn a place in the Grand Final, which will be held at the Totally Wicked Stadium (3.30pm) and Sunday, September 18, for the very first time.

“The Grand Final’s our next aim,” stated Langan. “We’ll have loads of confidence going into these play-offs from the Leeds game.

“We’ll still have to step it up another level and not let winning the Shield make us complacent.

“Our heads will still be focused on those play-offs.”

Langan is one of York’s longest serving players, having been part of the club’s debut season in the BWSL in 2018, and expressed her pride at the Shield victory.

She said: “It’s great to be able to go from losing at the very beginning of the Super League and being at the bottom and getting lots of points put past us to now have finished top of the league.

“This past year or so has been amazing.

“Winning the Shield meant so much to us, I can’t even begin to explain it and I feel a little bit emotional just talking about it. I probably cried about five times after that Leeds game.

“It’s absolutely massive. I can’t explain how much it means to all of us and everyone who has played for York in the past. It means absolutely everything to us.”

York centre Tamzin Renouf has been rested amid a hamstring issue, with prop Alisha Clayton returning to the squad. Winger Georgia Taylor and front-rower Daisy Sanderson miss out.

York City Knights Ladies squad: Stanley, Hyde, Andrade, Gentles, Hetherington, Langan, Peach, Clayton, Dodd, Wood, Bell, Lambert, Kershaw, Whitehead, Butler, Gale, Owen, Akpa, Bessahli.
